Boat Usage Procedures - TSC owned Boats

  1. A $50 damage deposit check is required each calendar year. Mail your check (payable to "Texins Sailing Club") to the Rental Officer The check will be voided and destroyed at the end of the year if there is no damage to any boat you use, or if you notify the Rental Officer immediately after any damage occurs. Your deposit will be cashed if the next user immediately reports damage on a boat you previously used. For further details on this policy, refer to the usage rules below.

  2. Review the Your Usage Credit Balance to check that you have enough credits on file to use a boat.  It will “cost” you one credit per day (or part of a day) to use a boat.

  3. Review the Boat Availability Calendar to verify the availability of the boat you wish to use.   NOTE: Boats that are out of service will be noted in the month heading.   Be sure to use your browser's refresh/reload button to display the current availability data.
  4. Click on a day on the calendar in order to reserve a boat for that day.  A confirmation e-mail will be sent to the rental officer, and a copy to you.  A password is required, which is provided to all qualified renters.

  5. You will be notified by email when your request is approved unless you ask another method.

NOTE:

Before using any of the Texins Sailing Club Boats, be familiar with Texas Boating Law, Coast Guard Requirements, and the Club Usage Rules.

  2. Must be checked out for the boat by a qualified club representative.

  3. Must have a $50 damage deposit check on file with the Rental Officer each year before using boats for that year.

  6. Must forfiet usage credits used or find substitute if canceling boat reservation less than 3 days in advance.

  7. Must use reasonable precaution in handling boat; Must AVOID sailing when conditions are too rough (heavy wind or rain all day); usage credit refunds will be made when weather is not favorable.

  8. Must use proper means for transportation of boats.  All boats have trailers.  Your car must have a 1 7/8" ball & a flat 4-pin electrical connection.  You must lock the trailer to your car at all times (lock is provided).

  9. Must promptly report any boat damage or maintenance requirement to the Rental Officer, and identify the boat as in need of maintenance with a conspicuous label.  (Tags are provided in the garage).  The using member is liable for damages of his/her $50 deposit.  This will occur only if the next user reports damage on the same boat while it is still in the garage.  Once the deposit is forfeited, a new deposit will be required before using another boat.

Usage Credits

The fleet of TSC boats is available for use by club members who contribute their time and energies to the club.

In general TSC will award one Usage Credit for every two hours that that a club member will devote to the club.  Such activities include (but are not limited to):

Note that instructors teaching a scheduled class will not receive credit, as they receive monetary compensation for their time.

It is the responsibility of each member to keep track of the hours that they serve the club, and request a usage credit for each block of two hours served.  It is perfectly OK to combine several small blocks of time that adds up to two hours in order to request one credit.
